A group of Weekend Club participants are enjoying a series of workshops with For Freedom Space with Rivers, a Dear Green Bothy (Being Human/University of Glasgow College of Arts) COP26 legacy project.
The project builds on concerns raised by The Weekend Club about climate justice during COP26, and is nurturing conversations, connections and creative processes around how we might adapt to the changing climate with rivers and look out for each other in the process. We spent time together with the Rivers Clyde and Leven in Dumbarton in the first session, during a very high tide, and collected water and other materials that we then used creatively in the second workshop, making our first marks on a huge communal/ =travelling scroll.
Some of the Weekend Club participants, including Fifi, Avin, Syeda, Ghanima and Fatwima, have accepted poetry commissions as part of the project to create new work of their own. These commissions will be supported by Rachel and Kirsty, and will be developed collectively by the team in a third workshop in April.
Artworks, connections and urgent conversations continue to develop around questions of precarity, home, freedom and solidarity. We look forward to a public event on May 26th exploring these questions further and celebrating art work created by all collaborating artists!
